Álafosskvos - Stekkjarflöt
Álafosskvos, the old factory of the Álafoss woolens company, was converted some years ago into a colony of artists' studios. Some artists open their studios to the public - prospective visitors should always contact in advance the artists they are interested in. Works by most of the artists with studios there are on show at the Álafoss Factory Warehouse Sale. One of the main tourist attractions in Mosfellsbær, the Álafoss Factory Sale is a good place to pick up bargain woolen goods and also houses a small exhibition about Iceland's woolens industry which flourished there. Works by artists from Mosfellsbær are also exhibited at Álafoss-föt bezt café. At Stekkjarflöt there is a small lake with a jetty - it is a popular place for boating in summer and ice skating in winter.

 Gljúfrasteinn – The House of Halldór Laxness
Gljúfrasteinn was the home and workplace of Halldór Laxness (winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1955) and his family for more than half a century. It has now been opened to the public as a museum, unchanged from when Laxness lived there. In the reception building you can watch a multimedia presentation dedicated to Laxness’s life and work. Tickets for admission, books and souvenirs are also sold there. In the beautiful countryside right next to Gljúfrasteinn, visitors can take walks as part of their visit, to see where Laxness spent his childhood and, in later life, sought his inspiration. Mosfellsbær town centre
Most of the shops in Mosfellsbær are located in the town centre on Háholt and Þverholt. Kjarni includes the municipal offices, healthcare centre, library, shops and a café. Another café, Draumakaffi, is located at Háholt 14, and coffee is also served at Mosfellsbakarí bakery at the end of Þverholt. Áslákur country pub and KFC are ideal places for refreshments after a vigorous walk or biking trip. Not far from the town centre is Hlégarður community centre, where dances are held.
